Letter from the CEO
Winter 2009

Sandra L. Katanick,
CAE CEO

We hope that your new year is off to a great start. 2009 will be a busy year for the IAC as we look forward to the availability of Online Accreditation for each of the accrediting divisions and continue providing accreditation programs that meet the needs of the applicant laboratories. These improvements are critical as we prepare for the increase in insurance and Medicare requirements for accreditation of diagnostic imaging facilities. In addition, we will be concentrating on the development and implementation of our newest accreditation division — ICACSF — for those facilities performing carotid artery stenting (see article).

Within this issue, noninvasive vascular laboratories will find an article providing basics on the complex Transcranial Doppler examination, as published by the ICAVL. The ICAEL focuses on pediatric echocardiography by examining the pediatric transthoracic protocol. The importance of staying current with published guidelines and position statements is of paramount importance within the ICANL accreditation program and therefore their feature article highlights recent publications. The ICAMRL explores safety within the laboratory and takes a close look at available resources to ensure that patients, personnel and equipment remain unharmed. The ICACTL spotlights the use of CT imaging in the evaluation of sinus conditions.

As always, we hope that you find the content of this issue useful in your daily diagnostic imaging activities. We welcome your feedback and comments as we move into 2009 and strive to produce a publication that meets the needs of your laboratory by spotlighting clinical content specific to noninvasive vascular technology, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance and computed tomography.
